European Beechwood qualities

European Beech is an interesting wood, often described as 'mother of the forest'. Its bright green leaves are a beautiful sight in UK springtime.

Typically there's not much difference between European Beech sapwood and heartwood. They darken in colour through drying and reach a deep reddish-brown after steaming treatment. The latter is often applied before the wood reaches suppliers.
