CMS and Ecommerce

A content management system and ecommerce website design are typically two of the commonest requirements of a more complex website. It is also the hardest solution to get a single "best of breed" outcome for. Software companies typically focus on one or the other solution and are good at one or the other. For example, Nvisage at one stage had both in-house ecommerce and CMS platforms. However, we decided early on that we could not develop two market leading systems. So we focused upon developing our ecommerce system, so that genuinely we could answer the question "what is the best ecommerce system" with the answer: "the Nvisage ecommerce solution".

Whereas, even though we developed one of the first XML-based CMS solutions, we realised that we could not effectively develop both solutions to a class-leading level. We therefore chose the option to continue developing our own ecommerce solution and evaluate and partner the best CMS solution on the market. We therefore chose to partner with the Ektron CMS and develop a class leading ecommerce solution to seamlessly integrate with the Ektron content management system.
