Our latest NHS website is launched
We have recently designed and developed the new website for East Berkshire CCG a newly formed CCG amalgamated from three previous Berkshire CCGs.
East Berkshire CCG requirements
We are a key digital supplier to the NHS and a long-term web agency partner to several NHS bodies including Slough CCG and a number of other CCGs in Berkshire. As we had developed successful, secure websites for a number of years for these bodies, we were invited to undertake the new website and amalgamate three existing sites into a single unified site.
For the new enlarged, the client felt that WordPress would be the best fit as they also managed other WordPress sites and liked the simplicity and ease of use it provided.
Our challenge was to achieve design sign off from a very busy team engaged in change management and allow ourselves enough time to build the site. We achieved the build and launch in one month and met the deadline and budget.
Our primary focus was to enable a wide rage of audiences to quickly and intuitively access the information and services they were looking for. The site is simple, graphical and easy to use and navigate thanks to innovation such as our interactive breadcrumbs allowing users to navigate to any page with a section directly from their page.
Key to the delivery of this successful site is our continuous support including training, content population and on-going hosting, security management and a responsive help-desk.
Contemporary WordPress design for the NHS
Mention WordPress to people and either they love it for its ease of use and cost-effectiveness or it is looked down upon as only fit for basic sites and has security issues.
Both of these points are entirely incorrect and typically espoused by people who work with alternative technologies and don’t understand the full capabilities of WordPress.
We love WordPress because of its flexibility and ability to develop in-depth complex websites and complete creative flexibility to design lovely contemporary responsive websites. We use one of the best drag and drop editors to enable very flexible and intuitive page building. From the design, we create a series of stand-alone, pre-designed modules which can be used to provide pre-made templates but also used to build pages from any of the library of modules. The beauty of this approach is that the editor has complete control over their content and the way it is presented but all within the framework of the agreed design.
With regards to security, WordPress is as secure or insecure as any other CMS. It is entirely dependent upon the approach the developer takes to security. As with any CMS, it needs to be patched regularly and be on an actively managed secure server with supporting security systems such as a firewall and security package such as Sucuri.
